About the Event
Typical features of the Eastern coast of Egypt are sheltered natural bays (Known locally as Marsa). Plastics, metal, wood, rubber, and glass can all be found littering on natural bays and its coral reefs. These wastes are often non-biodegradable, or persist over long periods of time, causing damage which is primarily of a physical nature.
Solid wastes damage coral colonies at the time of dumping, and thereafter through movements with natural tidal and surge action. Improperly disposed-of plastic bags end up in the sea. They can suffocate corals and other marine life. Certain fish eat them, and die. Bird and other wildlife become entangled in the plastic debris and die
RED SEA PROJECT™ is calling on the community members of the southern Res Sea to join forces for the protection of our most valuable natural resource in the "Natural Bays Beach Cleanup & Dive Against Debris"
